Luis, Product Manager, Car Rental

How much can a product manager build independently today with the help of AI? Tens of thousands of customer comments, a specific challenge and an idea: Luis used AI to develop a tool for his day-to-day work, even though he is not a software developer. In this interview, he explains how an idea became a practical solution in just a few iterations.

Hi Luis, could you briefly introduce yourself?
Luis:

Hi, I’m Luis, and I work in Technical Product Management at CHECK24 Car Rental in Augsburg. I joined as a working student in 2023. After graduating, I moved into a permanent role in 2025 and have worked as a product manager in Partner Management ever since.

My day-to-day work is about continuously improving our car rental comparison service for our customers. To do that, we analyse data and customer feedback, develop new ideas and implement them together with our IT teams.

What I find particularly exciting is that we have plenty of room to experiment. Using a wide range of AI tools has also become part of my everyday work.

How did you come up with the idea for your AI tool?
Luis:

It started with a specific challenge in my day-to-day work: we receive a huge amount of feedback from our customers. That feedback offers enormous potential to understand what already works well and where we can improve our product.

The challenge is to pick out the information relevant to a specific question from tens of thousands of comments.

I wanted to find a way to organise customer feedback more quickly and search it for specific topics. That’s how the idea for my own tool came about.

The best thing about CHECK24?

“We don’t see a problem as a setback. We see it as a chance to make lasting improvements to our product for customers and to learn something ourselves along the way. CHECK24’s AI-first approach gives us new opportunities to do that every day as product managers.”

How does the tool work?
Luis:

The tool helps me use AI to categorise large volumes of customer feedback.

Instead of going through countless comments one by one, I can focus on a specific use case. The tool organises the feedback we already have and highlights the comments most relevant to the question I’m working on.

This helps us spot our customers’ problems and requests more quickly and feed those insights directly into our product work.

You’re a product manager, not a software developer. How did you build the technical solution?
Luis:

That was one of the most exciting parts for me.

In product management, I usually focus on analysing problems, designing solutions and implementing them together with our IT teams. With this project, I wanted to see how far I could take my own idea with the help of AI. So I started building the technical solution myself, step by step. AI tools such as Claude and Cursor helped me understand possible approaches, write code and fix bugs.

After just a few iterations, that initial idea had become a working tool that I now use every day.

What did you learn while developing it?
Luis:

The project showed me once again how much AI is changing the boundary between designing a solution and putting it into practice.

As a product manager, I don’t have to become a software developer. But I can now develop ideas further on my own, try out initial solutions and test hypotheses early. That lets me find out what works more quickly, learn from the results and develop an idea with a clearer direction.

At the same time, I learned a great deal about the technical side of implementation. It’s precisely this combination of product thinking, new technologies and hands-on experimentation that makes challenges like this so exciting for me.

What do you particularly enjoy about product management at CHECK24?
Luis:

Ideas don’t just stay ideas.

When we identify a problem and have a promising approach, we’re encouraged to find practical solutions. I can take ownership of my own topics and explore areas beyond my usual responsibilities.

At the start, I probably wouldn’t have described my AI tool as a typical product management task. That’s exactly why it was so exciting to get started, learn something new and ultimately develop a solution that makes a real difference to my day-to-day work.

What advice would you give applicants interested in product management at CHECK24?
Luis:

I think curiosity is especially important: curiosity about the product and about the possibilities AI opens up in a product manager’s day-to-day work.

You should enjoy really understanding problems, questioning assumptions and trying out new ways to solve them.

If you want to do more than write concepts - if you want to test ideas, take ownership and actively shape products - product management at CHECK24 offers plenty of opportunities to do just that.
