Rosanna started in 2018 as a Junior Product Manager for the CHECK24 travel comparison portal in Dresden. She has now been nominated for the LOT program for developing young managerial talent. She discusses her everyday working life at CHECK24 with a few exciting tips for future applicants to boot.
I started as a Project Manager (PM) for the travel comparison portal in Dresden in 2018. We are all responsible for directly connecting interfaces with various travel companies. In addition to operational event management, I am also responsible for project management about the automation of service processes and linking additional travel services.
As a PM, we interface with management, developers, and partners. As a result, we have two roles: As PM, we develop concepts and strategies to optimize and further develop our product and are heavily involved with all stakeholders. Once these measures are implemented, we assume the role of a Product Owner: we define the service package, prioritize it and support its implementation as part of sprints.
In the morning, I start by looking at our key figures, and then we discuss new things or current challenges with the other PMs and developers. Otherwise, each day is different and always brings about surprises.
We’re always seeing how we can improve the user experience for our customers. As part of an ongoing project, we’re assuming the customer's position and looking at the processes the customer goes through when visiting our website. It’s often a challenge as the travel industry is still undergoing digital transformation. It’s about seeing what’s around the corner and finding creative solutions.
Open communication is part of our DNA - we have regular discussions, make many decisions, and openly discuss any issues. We also support one another, and everyone is treated as an equally valued team member.
Working as a Product Manager is diverse and demanding, so it’s never boring.
Rosanna, Senior Product Manager
Everyone can learn from someone else in the company and should always approach each day with an open mind. However, you sometimes need to step outside your comfort zone and try something new to advance.
Plenty of trusts was placed in me right from the start so that I could take responsibility and challenging tasks early on. I grew as a result, learned a lot, and gathered experience in various areas.
I started at CHECK24 as a Junior PM, but it took less than a year until my first promotion to Professional. Shortly after that, I was nominated for the LOT program for developing young managerial talent. Over the past two years, I’ve had quite a lot of input in many theoretical and practical modules, which means employee management at CHECK24. Meanwhile, I’ve been working as a Senior PM and have had the opportunity to take on basic managerial tasks in my daily work, such as helping with recruitment.
It’s always helpful to have an agile mindset, an eagerness to learn, and a basic technical understanding. Otherwise, there’s nothing you can’t know here.
