Michael has been a qualified financial economist at the Dortmund location since January 2021. Before joining CHECK24, he worked in the tax office for over 6 years and completed a dual degree in business administration during this time. In this interview, he tells us what he particularly likes about his job and reveals why he switched to CHECK24.
Hello Michael, please introduce yourself briefly.
Michael:
Hello everyone, I am Michael, 28 years old, a graduate in finance and have been working at CHECK24’s Dortmund location since January 2021. Here, together with my colleagues, I develop SteuerCHECK, the tax return of the future.
Before joining CHECK24, I worked at the tax office for more than 6 years, where I completed my dual studies to become a Diplom-Finanzwirt (finance graduate).
Why did you move from the tax office to CHECK24 and what are your tasks now?
Michael:
In the tax office, you are strongly bound to the administrative structures and working methods when processing tax returns or carrying out tax audits. As a result, I very rarely had the freedom to develop my own ideas. That has changed with my move to CHECK24. Here, I can help build a new product from the very beginning and contribute my experience in both tax law and tax office procedures. From the idea to implementation it usually takes only one day.
Here I have the feeling that I can really “make a difference”. With the combination of tax expertise and customer perspective, I can decide for myself how a complex tax topic can be illustrated for our customers with simple questions. My job is therefore to present the multifaceted tax law in a simple and understandable way for everyone. I am also the contact person for my colleagues when it comes to implementing tax topics.

What do you like most about your job?
Michael:
Many people do not file a tax return with the tax office out of convenience, because the effort is too great and the forms are too complicated. That is where our tax team comes in. We want to make it easy for our customers to get a refund from the tax office with little effort. And that is what I like about my job. I can bring joy to people with the topic of taxes. My colleagues complete the exciting work at CHECK24. Whether it are matches at the dartboard or table football, we all have a lot of fun.
