Matti is a Team Lead in Product Management at CHECK24 in Leipzig. He started his journey with a vocational training program as a travel agent in 2016 – and since October 2024, he’s been leading the Chatbot Team. In the interview, he shares what his day-to-day work looks like, which team achievements he's especially proud of, and how CHECK24 supports young leaders.
Hi Matti, please introduce yourself.
Matti:
Hi! I’m Matti and I’ve been leading the Chatbot Team at CHECK24 Pauschalreise since October 2024. After finishing school, I wasn’t quite sure which career path to take. Since I’ve always been passionate about travel, I started a vocational training program to become a travel agent at CHECK24 in 2016. I was so inspired by the company environment that I then completed a dual study program at CHECK24. After graduating, I joined the Operations Management team and gained valuable experience. In October 2024, I took over as Team Lead of the Chatbot Team in the package holidays division, and I now bring all those experiences into my new role.
What exactly are your responsibilities as a Team Lead in Product Management at CHECK24 Reise?
Matti:
The scope is actually broader than I initially expected. A big part of my work is the ongoing development of our chatbot. On top of that, there are leadership responsibilities, such as supporting my team’s professional growth and keeping everyone motivated. One particularly exciting aspect of my job right now is market observation. The AI market is evolving at lightning speed – it feels like new possibilities emerge every single day. Tapping into that momentum and translating it into product innovation is both a challenge and a highly fulfilling part of my role.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
Matti:
What excites me most is the fast-paced environment we’re working in. We're exploring a range of innovative AI topics and truly learn something new every single day. I especially enjoy working with prompts and continuously testing, troubleshooting, and optimizing. This work with AI has transformed the way we operate and offers constant challenges that help us grow together as a team.

What achievements are you especially proud of in your team?
Matti:
Definitely the complete rebuild of our chat system to make it AI-compatible. It was a massive project that involved the whole team. We had to rethink and redesign the chatbot from the ground up. Seeing the results of all that hard work pay off now makes me incredibly proud.
How does CHECK24 support young leaders?
Matti:
The support for young leaders at CHECK24 is really comprehensive. What I especially appreciate is the close mentorship and hands-on guidance in everyday work. I regularly receive feedback, which helps me constantly improve. On top of that, there are multi-day leadership trainings that prepare you for your responsibilities as a team lead. These trainings have helped me tremendously. What I also really like: at CHECK24, no one expects you to be a perfect leader from day one. Instead, you grow into the role together and develop your leadership skills step by step.
And finally – what has been the best team event you’ve experienced so far?
Matti:
One event definitely stands out: after receiving an internal award in the Operations Management team for our customer communication during the COVID period, we were invited to spend a long weekend together in Crete. We stayed in a private villa and had an amazing time as a team. It was a truly special experience I’ll never forget.
