Carolin has been working at CHECK24 since 2023 as Deputy Team Lead in Software Development. The role gave her the opportunity to take on responsibility early and grow into a leadership position. In this interview, she shares what her daily work looks like, how she got into programming, and what she looks forward to most on Mondays.
Hi Carolin, please introduce yourself briefly.
Carolin:
Hi, I’m Caro, and since 2023 I’ve been working at CHECK24 as Deputy Team Lead in IT. My path into the tech world started with a dual degree in computer science, which gave me both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. During that time, I worked a lot with PHP – and at some point, you just can’t miss CHECK24 as an employer.
I initially joined as a deputy for another team lead. That gave me the chance to take on responsibility early and grow into a leadership role. Today, I lead a small team myself and really enjoy developing together every day.
What exactly are your responsibilities as Deputy Team Lead in Software Development at CHECK24 Travel?
Carolin:
As Deputy Team Lead, I’m involved in many different areas. I still actively code – mainly in the backend. At the same time, I deal with infrastructure topics and work on establishing clear workflows and processes within the team.
Team leadership plays a key role in my daily work: employee talks, coaching, and close collaboration with product management are just as important as creating technical concepts. I really enjoy this mix – working with people on one hand and diving deep into technical topics on the other. That combination makes the role especially exciting for me.
How did you get into programming?
Carolin:
I actually started out studying mathematics, with computer science as a minor. In my first programming lectures, I quickly realized how much fun I was having. The combination of logic and creativity immediately hooked me. Before long, it was clear that I wanted to switch fully to computer science – and that was definitely the right decision.

What advice would you give to young women who want to start their careers in IT?
Carolin:
Go for it! You don’t have to be perfect from the start. What matters most is to just begin, keep going, and continuously develop yourself. My tip: show what you can do – not only in your code, but also as part of a team. And take advantage of the opportunities that come your way.
At CHECK24, for example, we have our own personnel development department that actively supports us in strengthening our skills and exploring new paths. That really helps when it comes to confidently taking the next step.
What do you look forward to most when you come to work on Mondays?
Carolin:
Definitely my team. It’s super motivating to work together on new features, test ideas, and learn from each other. In general, I really value the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally.

The variety of topics and the exchange with others ensure that there’s always something new to discover – and that’s exactly what makes the job so exciting.
And finally, tell us what you like to do after work.
Carolin:
After work, I like to clear my head. I enjoy game nights with friends or relaxing with yoga. Once a week, badminton is a fixed part of my schedule – it’s the perfect balance to working at a desk. And when I have time, I love cooking and trying out new recipes.
