Alexander is a Senior Software Developer at CHECK24 in Leipzig. He works in the backoffice team. In the interview, he tells us what makes his job at CHECK24 so special and what advice he would give to young talents who are interested in computer science.
Hi, I’m Alex and I work as a Senior Software Developer in the Backoffice Team at CHECK24 Travel. My passion for programming started early – and it hasn’t faded to this day. What brought me to CHECK24 was my desire to work in an environment that’s technologically advanced while also offering plenty of creative freedom. I’ve been here for several years now – and it still feels like there’s something new to learn every day.
We’re the technical backbone for many internal processes in the post-booking area. Our team ensures that operational workflows like cancellations, rebookings, or communication with tour operators run smoothly and efficiently. We play a key role as an interface between different systems – such as the booking platform, customer support, and external service providers.
Every day, I analyze existing processes and develop technical solutions that make our colleagues’ day-to-day work easier. This can include automations, interfaces to third-party providers, or improving internal tools. The goal is always the same: stable, high-performing, and scalable software that creates real value.
What I find especially exciting is the close collaboration with Product Management and Operations – this allows us to implement technical innovations very closely aligned with our users’ needs.
What I really appreciate is the combination of personal responsibility and team spirit. I have the freedom to bring in my own ideas but can always count on support from the team. The technical infrastructure at CHECK24 is also top-notch – continuous deployment, modern frameworks, and a culture where technical excellence is truly valued.
And last but not least: you can really feel that people here work with passion.
Here, I can work in an environment that is technologically advanced while also offering plenty of creative freedom.

Of course, technical know-how is important – no doubt about that. But just as crucial are curiosity and the ability to tackle problems in a structured way. Good developers ask questions, think ahead, and don’t just want to tick off tickets. You should also be willing to constantly learn – technologies evolve, and that’s a good thing.
Just get started! You don’t have to know everything right away. What matters is that you enjoy experimenting, failing – and learning from it. Side projects, a GitHub account, or contributing to open-source projects can really help.
And: connect with others! Talking to other developers often gives you new perspectives.
My day usually starts with a quick look at current tickets, logs, or pull requests. Then it’s time for the daily – a quick sync with the team.
I often use the last hour of the day to focus on coding or wrapping up open tasks. And then it’s: close the laptop, enjoy my evening – either at the gym or with friends.
