Ahmed, Working Student Software Development

My name is Ahmed, and I recently turned 24. Last year, I moved to Germany to pursue a Master’s degree in AI in Engineering at the University of Passau. I hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, during which I developed a strong passion for software engineering, particularly backend development. I am trying to combine my knowledge through the master’s journey and work study experience on how I can integrate AI agents in software systems.

I work within a team aiming to provide IT solutions to enhance the customers’ experience during using our platform in credits product. My tasks are contributing to both backend and frontend projects through adding new features, fixing bugs and additionally in the cloud operations if any.

During my internship, I was impressed by the scale of the company and its commitment to the best software practices and innovative solutions. I realized that CHECK24 offers the ideal environment for growth while allowing me to impact project development. Continuing as a working student felt like a natural step to further enhance my skills while contributing to exciting projects. Additionally, this experience adds significant value to my resume.

Basically, everything because I consider it my first work experience so every day is a new learning experience but if I would choose the most important skills, it would be guidelines on writing clean maintainable code, perform effective unit tests which was something that I completely ignored during my studies and later on understood its importance. One more thing is understanding CI/CD pipelines and how we can deploy faster alongside with ensuring the quality of every change to our codebase.

Beyond technical skills, I also gained strong communication skills by actively participating in meetings with project managers, daily stand-ups, and collaborative discussions.

Personally, what I enjoyed the most and was striving for every week was the speaker sessions that allowed us to get in touch with speakers who have great influence on the company’s progress and how they were very keen on giving us a broad overview about how different aspects such as Security, Agile methodologies, AI solutions... etc. are being implemented in the company.

I would recommend the internship to any student that wants to elevate his technical/non-technical skills by working with highly-skilled professional developers on real-world projects that will boost your understanding to a lot of software concepts that is sometimes neglected in theoretical learning and became much clearer through practical application. Additionally, for those who prefer an on-site work experience, our modern and well-equipped office significantly boosts productivity.

The Christmas Party was an unforgettable experience, filled with great energy, team spirit, and fantastic food. It was a perfect opportunity to connect with colleagues outside of work, and nothing beats celebrating together with music, dancing, and delicious food.
