Samira works as a Senior Online Marketing and Product Manager in the area of funeral insurance. In this interview, she tells us why she chose to work for CHECK24 after building her own start-up and working in consulting for a while.
I’m Samira and I’ve been working at CHECK24 for almost three years. After my degree in Business Administration, focussing on media and communications, I founded an e-commerce start-up. I gained in-depth online marketing skills and built up a small team of ten people. At the same time, I carried out various consultancy projects and gave presentations on the subject of online marketing. After three fantastic but very challenging years, I decided to look for a new job that didn’t tie me down 24/7 and offered a better work-life balance but that was still demanding and would feed my ambition. So that’s how I ended up at CHECK24.
As a Senior Online Marketing and Product Manager for funeral insurance, I develop sales and marketing strategies for our online comparison. I design projects, manage the planning and development and check the quality. I also track and analyze our user numbers and project results. In short, I’m trying to continuously improve our product comparison.
That’s actually difficult to answer because every day is different. Our stand-up meeting is a fixed appointment in my calendar. This is where we briefly discuss as a team which topics we’re working on and what is important for the day ahead. Otherwise, I generally start by evaluating the previous day’s figures and deriving measures as a result. The rest of the time, I work on our projects, create mock-ups for new features and write tickets for IT. I also observe the competition, brainstorm together with my team and look at how IT are implementing topics. I also oversee the go-live for individual features and do what needs to be done that day. I also occasionally uphold my reputation at the ping pong table.

Teamwork is a big deal for us. There’s no project that doesn’t involve at least three colleagues working on it. We all present our ideas, get advice, give feedback and make decisions together. Everyone is motivated and looks beyond their area of responsibility. Praise and criticism are openly discussed. To upkeep this, we organize meetings in which we discuss our work as a team and regularly plan team events.
The responsibility and free reign that I had right from the start. Lots of trust was placed in me from day one. I’ve always been able to put forward my own ideas, change existing processes and try new things. I’ve never heard anyone say “We’ve always done it that way”.
To be honest, every project is interesting in its own way. The launch is always the most exciting moment. It’s simply great to see something that you’ve been planning for weeks be visible on the website for all to see.
My job is extremely diverse - no two days are the same. We’re all really motivated, hard-working and do our best to drive the product. At the same time, we all have fun and help each other where we can.
