Salia joined CHECK24 in Dortmund in 2021 as a web developer. She has since switched to app development, where she primarily builds new features into our app and ensures the quality of our app through bug fixes. Find out in the interview what her work as a full-stack developer at CHECK24 looks like and what she enjoys most.
Hello Salia, please introduce yourself briefly.
Salia:
I'm Salia, and I'm 26 years old. I work as a full-stack app developer at CHECK24 in Dortmund. After completing my dual degree in computer science in Baden-Württemberg, I initially worked for a medical technology company. Since October 2021, I have been working at CHECK24 as a full-stack web developer on our SteuerCHECK product.
How did you get into IT, and what exactly are your tasks as a full-stack app developer?
Salia:
I was enthusiastic about IT from a very early age, which was also shown by the fact that I probably spent too much time on the Internet.
At school, I also discovered my enthusiasm for developing software. That's how I came to study computer science after school.
My tasks as an app developer are primarily to add new features to our app and to ensure the quality of our app through bug fixes. As a full-stack developer, my work covers both the front end and the back end. In the front end, I write the code for the app components, while in the back end, I extend existing calculations and incorporate the functionalities of the database.
You switched from web development to app development. Tell us more about it!
Salia:
Before we released our app, we supported the app team as an entire IT team for a while. I worked well with the app team during this phase and helped with many features. When the app was released, I was asked to join the app team. I had a lot of fun developing the app features with the developers, so I said yes. As I already had a lot of experience with the app, the transition went smoothly. Within a week, I was already a fully-fledged app team member.
Your advice to all young women who are interested in IT?
IT can be very creative and fascinating, so do what you enjoy. Your variety of skills and perspectives is incredibly valuable, especially in such a male-dominated industry.

What do you enjoy most about your work as a developer?
Salia:
I have the most fun developing cool new features that improve our software. I'm always thrilled to see how our app gets better bit by bit, and all of this through our everyday work. I also enjoy working on our software with my colleagues and finding clever solutions to challenges. Personally, I also really like the fact that I can influence the quality of our app myself. I enjoy reviewing new concepts our product managers have developed for our software and giving feedback. My focus in this feedback is on UI and UX.
