Mariko, Content Manager

Mariko joined CHECK in August 2021 as Content Manager and is responsible for product maintenance in the Shopping for Toys section. She explains in an interview why a certain sense of trends and flexibility is essential in her job.

Hello Mariko, please introduce yourself briefly.
Mariko:

Hi, I'm Mariko, and I've been working as a Content Manager at CHECK24 Shopping for Toys since August 2021. I'm from Berlin and studied linguistics and media studies.

How did you get into content management?
Mariko:

In my previous job, I already had contact with an online store and analyzed its sales figures, for example. During this, I discovered my affinity for eCommerce, and the open position at CHECK24 for content management was a perfect fit.

What exactly are your tasks as a content manager?
Mariko:

I start my working day by checking my emails and answering all open customer questions. After that, my daily tasks mainly include creating products and researching product information so that products are fully maintained, and customers get all the information they need. What makes my work varied is that we set new goals every quarter, which are always accompanied by new challenges. This allows us to take responsibility for projects and grow with them.

Describe your daily job in 3 words.

Varied, analytical, team spirit.

What are the biggest challenges in content management?
Mariko:

Our challenges are primarily technical. Because each of us can take on our projects, there is always someone within the team who is exceptionally knowledgeable about a particular topic. Whether it's a database query, a problem with Excel, or a feature in the front end that we need to maintain - one of us always knows the solution. And if not, we put our heads together as a team and find a solution.

What does it take to be successful in content management?
Mariko:

You should be a team player and have a lot of motivation to develop your area through product development continuously. It would also be helpful to have a feeling for trends, as we are constantly expanding our product range.

It would also be an advantage to have some Excel knowledge already, as we work with it daily and process large amounts of data. Because we often make decisions very quickly and in the shortest possible time, you should also have a high degree of flexibility, be open to new ideas and work in a solution-oriented manner.
