Jessica, Customer Advisor Private Health Insurance

Jessica has been working as a customer advisor at CHECK24 in Hamburg since 2023. In this interview, she tells us about the challenges she faces in customer advising and the qualities required to be successful. She is determined not only to pursue her own professional goals but also actively challenge the male dominance in the insurance world.

Hello Jessica, please introduce yourself briefly.
Jessica:

In 2010, I began my training as a Social Insurance Specialist at a Statutory Health Insurance (SHI) company. After successfully completing it, I decided to join the customer service department to assist our customers to the best of my ability with the knowledge I had acquired. After three years in the service center, I decided to take the next step as a specialist clerk, working as a substitute in customer service. After 13 years in SHI, I felt it was time for a new challenge, so I applied to CHECK24 for a position in private health insurance.

What do you like best about your area of responsibility?
Jessica:

I'm thrilled to be part of a modern and dynamic company that efficiently fulfills customer wishes thanks to modern technology. What I like most is the collaboration with various people - whether it's customers, insurers, or colleagues, along with the team events. Thanks to the open-mindedness of my colleagues, I quickly found a connection and have preferred working with a view of the Alster in the office since my first day rather than working from home.

I enjoy finding the optimal solution for our customers through communicative collaboration and fast processes. We help each other with professional topics and always have an open ear for personal matters. Despite the sometimes dry insurance topics, we have a lot of fun among ourselves and enjoy the occasional after-work beer after a successful day.

What are your professional goals/plans for the future?
Jessica:

My goals include optimizing my hard skills in 'PHI' product knowledge and technical know-how, alongside soft skills in sales, to reach the next level of the career model. Additionally, I want to celebrate successes with my team and CHECK24 and continually innovate processes.

Moreover, I want to encourage more women to start their careers as customer advisors in the insurance world. Often, women feel discouraged because the industry is predominantly male-dominated. However, I can confirm that customer advising offers great career opportunities for women, as our skills such as empathy, communication, and problem-solving are particularly in demand here. It's time for women to realize the significant role they can play in this field and be encouraged to choose this exciting career!

What is the biggest challenge in customer advising, and how do you overcome it?
Jessica:

Maintaining consistent service quality, even during peak times. Personally, I ensure a healthy balance in my free time or take a walk by the Alster during my breaks to get some fresh air. I don't take myself too seriously and always look for the positives in life.

What qualities are essential for success in customer advising?
Jessica:

Through my collaboration with many different people in the past, my character is primarily characterized by teamwork, communication, openness, and resilience today. So, if you're open to new experiences and if ambition, commitment, and motivation, along with communicative and persuasive telephone skills, distinguish you, then CHECK24 is the right place for you. In this regard, I also want to address all women in the insurance world: Feel addressed and let's together show this male-dominated field what we're capable of!

And finally, tell us: What does customer orientation mean in your profession?
Jessica:

Customer orientation in our profession involves the regular, systematic capture and analysis of customers' wishes, needs, and expectations, as well as their implementation. The central goal is to build long-term, stable, and economically viable customer relationships.
