Martin has been working in software development at CHECK24 since November 2020 and tells us in our video what it means to work in an "IT-centric company" and what he likes about it.
Hi, I'm Martin. After school, I studied automotive informatics at BMW in Ingolstadt. During the semester breaks, I was usually on an internship in Munich and was thus able to have my first experience in professional software development.
After my bachelor's degree, I spent almost two years at BMW in Vehicle Data Collection, where I helped develop the backend systems in ConnectedDrive. At an external event of the Bavarian Elite Academy, I met Kostas, the CTO of CHECK24, who convinced me to join CHECK24.
Here at CHECK24, I work on very different projects. The nice thing about it is that I always have to familiarise myself with new topics and that the learning never stops. However, the project I enjoyed the most was one in which we improved the performance of a rather complex system. Solving that problem requires a lot of creativity, and I think that's the cool thing about IT: you can solve any problem. You need the right idea.
Besides my everyday tasks as a software developer, I am also involved in the program for our student scholarship holders. I give the students technical input in monthly tech sessions, organize hackathons with colleagues, and act as a mentor, advising them on their IT projects. This adds variety to my day-to-day work, and I enjoy teaching young talents and supporting them in their projects.
I also hold other tech talks at our CHECK24 IT Meetup, which takes place online or partly offline every two months. Anyone can participate here, not just internal employees!
I like to try out new technologies, so we develop the app in Flutter + Firebase. When my fingers are tired from typing, I either hit the keys on my piano or play a game of tennis.
