Julius, Software Developer

I'm Julius and I recently completed my dual studies Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at the Hochschule für Wirtschaft und Recht Berlin in cooperation with CHECK24. Afterward, I continued working as a Junior Software Developer at CHECK24 Profis.

I was very enthusiastic about my computer science classes at school. I was also very curious about how software is developed in a large company to ultimately create a successful product. The dual study program in computer science sounded like the perfect way to pursue both interests at the same time.

When looking for a partner company for the dual study program, I was particularly interested in CHECK24, as CHECK24 has a tangible product with a clear business model compared to other large partner companies. I am very happy and grateful to have completed my dual study program at CHECK24.

In my opinion, the course content provides a useful knowledge base for the practical phases. I learned an enormous amount, especially in the practical projects at CHECK24. The practical experience also highlights and makes it clear why the content taught at university is important and relevant. During the lectures, I often had real-life applications of the theoretical concepts in mind.

Right in the first semester, I was allowed to build a micro-service with the other dual student in my year to replace a large legacy product. We had to build a development environment ourselves and prepare the infrastructure for a test and production system, while we were explained how the architecture in our area is structured. Then, we built a small web application with a database that used only a fraction of the old big database.

Right after our first 3 months, we went live, and our small project replaced the large legacy product. I personally learned a lot from the project, and CHECK24 was able to shut down the legacy product, so that it no longer had to be operated in a resource-intensive way. The project is still running today!

I have a very diverse range of tasks that revolve around the further development and operation of our website. Most of my time is spent on front-end and back-end development, but it also includes developing various infrastructure. As a developer, you will also work closely with our product managers to discuss changes to the product. Code review is also an important part of the job, as a mutual quality control with my colleagues.

I was surprised to find out that unconditional customer orientation is actually practiced at all levels at CHECK24. Of course, most companies claim this, but here no decision is made that doesn't focus on the customer.
