In the past year, Gina started her career as a product manager in insurance at CHECK24. In the interview, she tells us about her application process, how she was welcomed into the team, and what surprised her the most about her work in the insurance sector.
Hello Gina, please introduce yourself.
Gina:
My name is Gina, and I started as a junior product manager for pension insurance at CHECK24 at the beginning of last year. After completing my master's degree, I decided to look for career opportunities in Munich.
Initially, I applied for a different position, but the HR team assigned my application to my current role, which in hindsight was a much better fit for my profile. Now, after just one year, I have been promoted to a professional level, which makes me very happy.
What are your specific responsibilities as a product manager in the field of pension insurance?
Gina:
As a product manager, I'm primarily responsible for two main areas. Firstly, I check all our documents, ranging from informational materials for customers to creative designs, and even our dynamic insurance application forms programmed with JavaScript, which we develop in collaboration with insurers. Secondly, I manage the tariff management aspect, which involves the content of our insurance comparison. Here, I handle the analysis of various insurers' tariffs, as well as the ongoing development and maintenance of the tariff comparison.
How was your start at CHECK24?
Gina:
My start at CHECK24 was truly fantastic. I couldn't wish for a better start to my professional life. The application process was extremely pleasant. From submitting my application to receiving the offer, it only took about 2 weeks. The interview conversations were very friendly, and I had a good feeling right away.

What tips would you give to students and graduates who are interested in pursuing a career in product management?
Gina:
I would recommend approaching the application process with an open mind. Product management is a broad field that is constantly evolving. Therefore, seize every opportunity to learn new things and don't be afraid of challenges – you often grow faster and stronger than you think. Be open to tips and advice from others, and learn from their experiences.
What are you most looking forward to when you go to work on Mondays?
Gina:
Actually, no two days are the same for us. Every Monday, I'm excited about new tasks and challenges. There hasn't been a week in which I haven't learned something valuable. Additionally, I look forward to my team. The atmosphere in our office is always great, whether during work or during breaks. I also look forward to the game nights or billiard matches we occasionally organize, every time!
And finally, tell us: What surprised you the most when you started at CHECK24?
Gina:
I must honestly say that I didn't expect insurance to be so fascinating. There's so much potential in digitizing this field, and it's really enjoyable to work on improving and simplifying the customer's journey to disability insurance. What's great is that my responsibilities always directly impact the customer, so motivation never leaves.
